In my opinion, the View Heathrow observation deck is one of the best places to visit at Heathrow’s Terminal 4. Ideal for plane spotting Heathrow-style or anyone who simply admires the excitement of airport operations, it offers views of planes taxiing, taking off, and landing — from smaller A319s to iconic A380s and 747s.
How to Reach the View Heathrow Observation Deck
The observation deck is located near Gates 15-16 in Terminal 4. Look for a door resembling an aircraft door, clearly marked “View Heathrow.” (See the picture below.)
How to Identify Different Aircraft Types
While the iPads with flight radar displays were previously available, they have since been removed. However, you can still identify aircraft types by using a flight radar app on your phone. Simply click on a plane icon on the map, and it will display all the details you need.
For an even easier experience, try the augmented reality (AR) feature on flight radar apps like Flightradar24. Just tap the AR option and point your phone towards the aircraft; it will automatically display all relevant information.
Can You See the Concorde from the Heathrow Observation Deck?
Yes! One of the best features of this observation deck is the opportunity for a Heathrow Concorde view. The iconic Concorde is parked nearby in all its beauty. When you arrive, simply face the main glass and look slightly to your right. There, you’ll find the Concorde, ready to be admired.
Tips for Capturing Great Photos
If you have a high-quality camera or a phone with advanced zoom features, like the S24 Ultra, you can capture a fantastic shot of the Concorde. Even without a top-tier camera, the observation deck offers a beautiful view.
For the best shots, try to be patient. I love it when I’m able to capture multiple aircraft in a single frame. For example, one taxiing while another takes off in the background. These moments just show the fast-paced dynamics of aviation and really capture the energy of the airport!
Whether you’re passing through Terminal 4 or have a layover, I highly recommend taking a moment to relax here. Additionally, you can enjoy some plane spotting “Heathrow style” and, perhaps, even spot your own plane landing!
